The ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) is a three-hour vocational aptitude battery consisting of practice sessions and eight timed tests. The results of the tests provide three academic and four occupational scores. The scores are especially valuable in career planning and the counselors strongly recommend the ASVAB for juniors who are having difficulty identifying a specific career path. Students who plan to enlist in one of the military services or attend a service academy must take the ASVAB. The services use the scores to determine job placement for recruits. The scores also have an effect on advancement. Registration for the ASVAB is conducted in the Counseling office. The test is given once each year in high school; it is FREE of charge and there are no military obligations on the part of students who take the exam.
