Dual Enrollment
Dual enrollment offers students the ability to enroll in college-level courses and earn college credit(s) that can also be used to satisfy WHS graduation requirements. Any student who is interested in pursuing dual enrollment credit options should speak with their school counselor.
There are currently two ways through which students can earn dual enrollment credits:
- Option 1: Enroll in specific Wilson High School courses that qualify for dual enrollment credit through RACC and complete the RACC application process (see “RACC Dual Enrollment at Wilson” below for specific courses and application information).
- Option 2: Enroll in college-level courses directly through an accredited college or university (several local options are provided below). Students who are interested in this option must have each course pre-approved by their school counselor and WHS administration. Please complete the Dual Credit/Transfer Credit Approval Form and submit to your counselor
** IMPORTANT! Students must check directly with the college(s)/university(ies) and future major you plan to apply to/ attend to see if they will accept dual enrollment credits. **

-
- Demonstrate a high level of motivation and show they are academically advanced to succeed at the college level.
- Complete admissions requirements for their intended major by the end of the current academic year, except receipt of high school diploma.
- Maintain academic excellence through the current academic year.
- Have written permission and recommendation to enter the program from a high school principal, superintendent, high school counselor or homeschool evaluator, and parent/guardian;
- Have a guarantee from their high school that a diploma will be granted upon successful completion of their first year at Penn State (successful completion of high school depends on what the high School or homeschool considers successful)
- Interview for this program with an admissions officer at a Penn State campus.
- Dual Enrollment Program
Through the Dual Enrollment program, high school students can attend ne of Penn State’s undergraduate campuses to take college courses while still in high school. This option allows you to earn college credits that can be applied to a Penn State degree or may be transferred to another institution.
-
- Students who have completed their junior year or are currently in their senior year of high school are eligible for dual enrollment. Exceptions for high school juniors and underclass students are considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Dual credit enrollment students may take up to 8 credits per semester. Most students take one or two courses per 16-week semester in addition to or in place of high school coursework.
- Dual credit enrollment courses are taught by faculty approved to teach high school students at our twenty undergraduate campuses – dual credit enrollment is not available through Penn State World Campus. You can find a list of approved dual credit enrollment courses here.

- The Technical Academy through RACC and BCTC
- The Technical Academy provides students an early start on their associate degree while at the Career & Technology Center (CTC) in selective programs. Technical Academy students are “dually enrolled” as CTC and RACC students while in high school. Depending on the program selected, students may complete up to six college courses at the CTC during the first and second year of the program, earning up to 18 college credits. The college credits earned while at the CTC will be tuition-free when students continue to RACC to complete their associate degree.
- SOAR Programs of Study at Career & Technology Centers
- SOAR (Students Occupationally and Academically Ready) prepares students for college and careers in a diverse, high-performing workforce. A student from any state-approved program from any CTC in the state can transfer these program credits (9 or more) to any college offering these programs.
