NHS Selection Requirements
1. At the end of the first semester of a student’s JUNIOR or SENIOR year of high school, he or she will be eligible for membership if the student’s GPA is a 93% or higher. This GPA is the cumulative one which starts in 9th grade. Only juniors and seniors (who didn’t make the grade requirement as a junior but currently make it as a senior) are eligible.
2. During the first week of February, juniors and seniors who qualify academically will be instructed to fill out an electronic application requiring a list of the student’s extra-curricular activities and volunteer activities. Students can list service hours outside of school, as long as they were not compensated for that service.
National Honor Society Application
3. After applications are submitted, the chapter’s Faculty Council will carefully review the applicants’ credentials. In addition to the Scholarship standard, membership in NHS is also based on attributes of Leadership, Service, and Character. To be selected as a member of NHS, the student must demonstrate on his or her “Application for Selection” that he or she has met these additional standards.
4. Students who meet all of the requirements will officially be inducted during a ceremony held in March each school year.
