In an effort to simplify the terminology and language that we use to communicate with our students and staff in emergencies, the district has adopted the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) – a set of guidelines produced by the “I Love U Guys” Foundation and widely accepted as standard Emergency Operating Procedure (EOP) by the Berks County Intermediate Unit, as well as many other public school districts, universities, and businesses both locally, and across the country.
The attached handout provides an overview of the SRP and the five specific actions that can be initiated based on the type of emergencies that arise: HOLD, SECURE, LOCKDOWN, EVACUATE, and SHELTER. Each of these actions is followed by specific directions to be executed by our students and staff.
When practicing and training for each of the five types of responses, students are clearly informed that they are participating in a drill, and they are provided with instruction and guidance from their teachers on what they need to do to maintain a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff. In addition, the SRP Posters are hung throughout the buildings as a reference and to remind students of the five actions and their accompanying directions.
Along with this handout, the “I Luv You Guys” Foundation has produced a short video for training purposes that provides a good overview of the protocol and the rationale behind the recommended responses, which is available on their website.
We look forward to continuing to work together to provide the students and staff of the Wilson School District with a safe and secure learning environment. Thank you for your partnership!
