Reading and Language Arts
Reading Workshop is a product of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, founded by Lucy Calkins, a Professor of Children’s Literature at Teachers College, Columbia University.
Reading Workshop is reading instruction through demonstration and supported practice, and is tailored to the learner, based on the teacher’s ongoing assessment. It includes whole-group mini-lessons, small-group work, partner work, individual conferencing, word study, shared reading, read alouds, and an abundance of opportunities for independent reading. The mission of the Reading Workshop structure is to nurture a true love of reading while teaching the strategies necessary to tackle difficulties along the way.
Math
As of the 2012-2013 school year, our Math program is titled “enVision Math”. This research-based program is based on the Common Core Standards and is centered around interactive technology and visual learning. All skills are taught for mastery through guided, cooperative, and independent hands-on learning that is differentiated to serve all students’ needs.

Units of study will include Self-awareness, Safety, The Five Senses, Solids and Liquids, Nutrition, The Family, Doctors/Dentists, Air and Water, Ecology, Plants, and Butterflies, as well as seasonal and holiday-related themes. These units will incorporate reading, writing, and math skills.
