Dear Wilson Families,
First and foremost, the Wilson School District Food Services Department is excited to be serving students nutritious breakfasts and lunches for another school year! We are excited to share that breakfast and lunch will be free for all students through June 30, 2022. Students can purchase additional snacks and beverages using their account or by bringing in money.
While all school meals are free, we encourage families to fill out the application for free and reduced lunch. Students who are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals can get Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits to help with food costs and may qualify for other benefits. The school meals application also helps the district and your child’s school receive much-needed education funding. For additional information, please visit our website.
The food services department also wanted to inform you of an update concerning upcoming breakfast and lunch menus. The Wilson Food Service Department’s main food distributor is currently experiencing labor and product shortages. In addition, the manufacturers are also experiencing product and labor shortages. Many products are not currently available to us and while we have tried to plan accordingly, our food orders are not being filled completely, are arriving later than scheduled, and/or are being cancelled altogether.
Therefore, published menus may not match what is served in our cafeterias in the coming weeks. Our food service department is working hard to prepare nutritious meals for our students with the products we have in stock and the products that are delivered to us. We will send out messages as we need to change menu items, both to teachers and to nurses. We apologize in advance for any changes!
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility! We can’t wait to see your students in our cafeterias this school year!
Sincerely,
Ms. Sarah Ginn, Director of Food Services
