Exams
Physical exams are mandated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for school in kindergarten, 6th, and 11th grades. Dental exams are required in kindergarten, 3rd, and 7th grades. Private exams from up to one year before the first day of school of the required grade through the end of that school year are acceptable.
Please note that school dental exams do not include cleaning or repairs. If the school dentist notes a problem, a referral will be sent home for the parent to take to your private dentist or clinic. Since the requirements for exams for school are only in a few grades, it is important that your child have regular check-ups by his/her physician and dentist so that problems do not go undetected for long periods of time.
Students who have their own physicians and dentists should have these exams completed privately. School exams will be provided on an as needed basis. If your child needs to have a school exam, you may choose so on your child’s emergency form at the beginning of each school year.
School dental exams are given in the fall and physicals are in the spring for students whose parents marked permission for school exams on their emergency forms.
