The work of art represents the Pond Project on the back property of Wilson West Middle School. The pond consists of many species of wildlife and is now used as an educational setting for our students. Karen Mendoza (8th grade) and her sister, Kathia Mendoza (former West student and current Wilson 12th grader) researched the various species on the pond and took photographs as reference. They finalized their research and created a collaborative work of art illustrated in oil pastels. This beautiful work represents the wildlife and habitat existing on and around the pond. The artwork will be transferred onto a metal plaque that will include information about the species and wildlife that exist on the pond. This plaque will soon be displayed as a permanent sign and posted for all visitors to read and learn about life on the pond.
