Michael Thompson

Green Valley Elementary School

270 Green Valley Rd

Reading, PA 19608

Dear Michael Thompson:

On behalf of the American Heart Association and the millions of Americans we serve, thank you very much for your school's donation of *$5,502.49. Families and schools are critical links in providing the foundation for cardiovascular wellness in our country. By holding this event at your school each year, you raise awareness about heart-healthy living. And you help us fund more lifesaving scientific research and critically needed education efforts. Thank you.

Almost every family in America is touched by heart disease or stroke, and your school's contribution will significantly impact our fight against these devastating illnesses.

We hope that you, your faculty and your students found this lifesaving effort rewarding and enjoyable. You are touching so many lives — and life is why we exist as an organization. Your help and support are greatly appreciated, and we look forward to partnering again with you next year!

Please take a minute to complete our survey and give us your input.

Warm regards,

Nancy Brown

Chief Executive Officer, American Heart Association

Math - Grades 3-5 - April 24 - April 28

Created by Mrs. Ward. Featuring Mr. Thompson and our Green Valley Students and Teachers.

The PSSA, or the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment, is administered in all Pennsylvania public schools in grade 3, 4, and 5. It measures student achievement in Math, Reading, and Science (grade 4 only). We use this data as one of many factors to drive classroom instruction, interventions, and curricular reviews. We will continue to design extraordinary learning experiences for our students, empower them with test taking strategies and reinforce that this is an opportunity to show what they know and encourage them to try their best.

You can help by:

√ Talking to your child about the importance of doing well and expressing your confidence in his/her ability.

√ Encouraging your child to do well, since the test will become part of his/her permanent record.

√ Making sure your child arrives at school on time. Avoid scheduling appointments during testing period dates.

√ Trying to keep things at home as calm and pleasant as possible in order to avoid creating anxiety.

√ Making sure your child has a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast on testing days.

√ Having your child wear comfortable clothing - in layers - in case the room is too hot or too cold.

Artist in Residence, Jeffrey Stumhofer was brought to us by our GVHSA, Mrs. Saar, and Box Tops!
Jeff Stumhofer is a visual artist who graduated from Wilson High School in 1994. He attended the Temple's Tyler School of Art, and eventually studied abroad in Rome, Italy. Jeff has created artwork for movies, TV, and set design. His resume includes working on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Kitchen Nightmares, Bar Rescue, Animal Planet, Food Network and ABC.
This is what Jeffrey had to say about his experience: "Had an amazing week at Green Valley Elementary! Each student left their mark on the mural (540). So honored to be able to create for Wilson School District, Go Bulldogs!"
Mrs. Goehler, our GV librarian said: " What an exciting day! Creative work began today with our Artist in Residence and Wilson Grad Jeff Stumhofer. It's fascinating to watch this mural take shape as each class visits to lend a hand.

We've got lots of great books about art and artists ready for curious readers who visit the library. Check out our online resources, too.

Many thanks to GVHSA and to you, our families, for clipping Box Tops all year long."

Thank you Jeff for an amazing experience!!
