WSD LEARN-TO-SWIM PROGRAM

Wilson School District has been offering its community a swim lesson program since 1966. One of its main purposes has always been to provide individuals the ability to improve their swimming and water safety skills. Lessons are designed for students of all ages from six months to adult. Students are placed into classes based on age-appropriate levels as well as current swimming abilities.

THE LESSONS

As a goal driven program, Wilson's well-trained instructors will work with students to help master each skill within a level before advancing them to the next. Learn to Swim lessons emphasize a progressive step-by-step approach to teaching your child to swim and breathe correctly and safely. Swimming instructors teach each swimmer individually and class sizes are purposely kept smaller in order to keep a good student to instructor ratio and create an environment that promotes greater success. On average a group within a class session will be 3:1 student to instructor ratio and will never exceed a 5:1 ratio for the more advanced levels. All sessions are supervised by Erin Goodhart Kurtz or a designated Aquatic Supervisor. Children will be grouped by their ability, because swimming is not a natural skill for most people learning to swim will take some time, practice and confidence. This is one of the best student to instructor ratios for swim lessons in Berks County.

2017 Learn-To-Swim Information

GENERAL INFORMATION

All skill levels will be offered during each time slot. If you choose a time slot and the level is already full we will move your child/participant to the secondary choice selected on the registration form. The only level that will be limited to a specific time will be the parent tot classes.

Group, Private and Semi-Private Lessons will be offered during these sessions; however, availability for private and semi-private lessons will be limited to first-come-first-serve basis. If you are interested in a semi private or private session, you are still required to fill out the registration form with your available time slots. If the semi-private or private lessons are full you will receive a call from the aquatic office notifying you of other availability. Each session runs approximately 6 classes with class time averaging 30 minutes in length.

Once registered, you will receive an automatic e-mail indicating the office has received your registration. Approximately 2 weeks prior to the start of lessons you will receive another e-mail from the aquatic director indicating payment options, the lesson time assigned to your child/children and directions and information to the facility.

Please note ages of the children are used only as a guideline to help determine levels. The most important factor in determining what class to register is the skill level of the student. If a student is 7 years old but still at a Level II ability, the student should be signing up for the Levels II course. Students will be matched appropriately with other students in their appropriate age range within the class.
